Do you get extra time at the Dutch theory exam if you have dyslexia?

Yes! With dyslexia you can take the theory exam with extra time. You then get 15 minutes more, so 45 minutes instead of 30. A computer voice can read the questions out, and with a dyslexia statement you claim the surcharge back afterwards.

Which exams are there if you need more time?

There are two options, and both take 45 minutes: the exam with extra time and the individually supervised exam.

If dyslexia is your only reason, the exam with extra time is usually the best fit. You sit in the normal room with the same questions as everyone else, and you get a quarter of an hour more to read them calmly.

Can you have the questions read out?

Yes, in the exam with extra time a computer voice reads the questions out through an earpiece from the CBR.

What does an exam with extra time cost?

For the car and the moped, the theory exam with extra time costs € 64.00, against € 50.50 for the regular exam.

How do you get the surcharge back?

With a dyslexia statement you claim the surcharge back within 14 days after your exam.

Does this work for motorcycle and scooter too?

Yes, the motorcycle and moped exams also come with extra time, with 15 minutes more.

Smart practice with dyslexia

Practise at home with the same 45 minutes you get at the exam, and read the questions out loud if that helps.

That way you already know what the pace feels like on the day. After each practice exam, check which questions you misread and which ones you really didn’t know; those are two different things to work on. How to do that is in making the most of practice exams.
