How do you book or reschedule your CBR theory exam?

You book your theory exam yourself in Mijn CBR, the CBR’s online portal, with your own DigiD. You can pick the English version of the car exam there. Once booked, you can move your exam up to 3 times, but you can’t cancel it.

Before you book

Already have a driving licence from another country? You may not need a Dutch theory exam at all. Check when you can exchange your foreign licence first. It could save you the whole exam.

Booking your exam

You book in Mijn CBR and pay online straight away.

You pay online right away and get the confirmation by email, with your exam invitation attached. You can’t book a theory exam by phone. Booking the exam in English

You book the English exam the same way. You just pick the English option in Mijn CBR.

Book “theorie-examen Engels auto extra tijd”. You can book the English exam at every CBR theory exam location. The exam may contain a few Dutch words that are not translated. Source: cbr.nl.

Rescheduling

You can move your exam up to 3 times, until 7 days before.

Within 7 days of your exam, you can only move it to an earlier moment, if there is a free spot. On the day of the exam itself you can’t reschedule any more. Did your driving school book the exam for you? Then get in touch with them in good time. If you can’t get a DigiD, the CBR Customer Service can help you reschedule.

Cancelling and getting your money back

You can’t cancel. If special circumstances kept you from going, you ask for your exam fee back within 14 days.

You do this in Mijn CBR from the day after the exam date, with proof attached, and you have 14 days. Without a DigiD, you send the signed refund form with proof within 14 days of the exam date. Pick a date you are ready for

Since you can’t cancel and rescheduling has limits, it pays to book once you feel ready. Practice exams show you quickly whether you are there yet. And after you pass, the clock starts on your practical exam, so read how long your theory result stays valid.
